Introduction:

Pale yellow solid, melting point lower than anthraquinone, soluble in benzene, can be recrystallized from ethanol or acetic acid, melting point 108℃.

Uses:

It is hydrogenated in a solvent to generate 2-ethylhydroanthraquinone, and then reoxidized to generate 2-ethylanthraquinone and hydrogen peroxide. This reaction is used in industry to produce hydrogen peroxide. It is prepared by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of phthalic anhydride and ethylbenzene, and can also be prepared by the Diels-Alder diene synthesis and dehydrogenation reaction of 1,4-naphthoquinone and 2-ethyl-1,3-butadiene. It is used to prepare hydrogen peroxide and as a dye intermediate. It is also used as a photosensitizer for photosensitive resins, a catalyst for photocurable resins, a photodegradable film, a coating, and a photosensitive polymerization initiator.
